Realsamples 19th Century Pianoforte: Johann Karl Traugott Berndt Lives On
Travel back in time with realsamples to enjoy their new piano sample library of a pianoforte from 1848. Joining the Edition Beurmann collection, 19th Century Pianoforte moves Professor Andreas K. Beurmann's Traugott Berndt pianoforte from his collection to yours.
The pianoforte was built in 1848, back when people had two middle names, by Johann Karl Traugott Berndt in Breslau. Its sound is distinguished by play that realsamples describes as charming, graceful, smart and slinky. It is one of only nine Berndt pianos left in the world today.
Realsamples aimed to capture the Berndt pianoforte as carefully and accurately as possible with 32 velocity layers for each note. If that isn't getting a bit obsessive, they recorded eight variations of each key release sound. Overall, there are almost 3,300 single samples. That's not surprising with rising divorce rates.
Realsamples used tube-driven Royer R-122V ribbon microphones, Crane Song Flamingo preamps and UAD 2192 digital converters to capture the nuances of the pianoforte. Everything was recorded in 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, but if you don't need that much quality, you can cut it down.
Along with the samples, 19th Century Pianoforte comes with an essay in German from Professor Beurmann himself about the background of the pianoforte. And who hasn't been clamoring for one of those?
