RealTraps New Modular Treatment System: Pristine And Sterile Acoustic Environments Made Very Effective Yet Very Flexible

July 09, 2009
RealTraps New Modular Treatment System

When I was in my teen years, I remember helping out install a famous old-fashioned DIY acoustic treatment, the foam and egg carton combination wall. Although far from getting that desired professional result, its seemingly modular approach was easy enough for everyone in my band to work on. Bringing in that modular approach is the new modular acoustic treatment system from RealTraps.

RealTraps has brought in a more advanced approach than the primitive one I discussed a while ago as their new system does not require permanent mounting, which makes for easier configuration changes. All of the modules are 6" thick and can be stacked freestanding up to a height of 8'. To hold the traps securely, a special soft non-slip material is used which also protects from scratching. This modular system is ideal for both high-end mixing and mastering engineers working in small spaces as well as for home theaters and regular two-channel hi-fi listening.

You may then ask, "Why would I use equalizers that only have three bands when I can have those EQs that have more?" For simplicity's sake of course. With their design, the Passive-Active Pack has already cut out a lot of work for you. Working with only three bands offers a faster result as some of the choices you could have been making with other EQs that have for or more bands have already been made. It's as if you're working with a sound designer which will allow you to focus on your music more.

With this modular system in place in your studio or home theater, RealTraps say that it can deliver much needed improvement in frequency responses and decay times of up to below 40 Hz. The reverb decay times also become uniform at mid and high frequencies with large amounts of diffusion via RealTraps diffusors to give you that untainted and clearly pristine sound.

This new modular system is composed of the following components:

  • The corner bass trap modules use a 2'x4'x6" MondoTrap.
  • The reflection absorber modules use a 2'x4'x6" HF style MondoTrap.
  • The wall modules use the RealTraps Diffusor that is also a bass trap.
  • 2'x4'x6" MondoTraps rest above each module to treat the wall-ceiling
  • corners.

Though this is a modular system, each module is sold separately with each piece having a price tag from $199 to $599 each. Additional discounts are applied for 10 or more pieces of any type.
