Rivera Amplification SilentSister Isolation Cabinet: Seriously, Call Child Protective Services

Rivera Amplification SilentSister Isolation Cabinet

While the new Rivera SilentSister Isolation Cabinet does nothing to improve sibling relationships, it does represent a great improvement in guitar isolation cabinet technology.

If you've never run across a guitar iso cab, well, then, the technical developments and refinements that Rivera has worked so hard on will mean little or nothing to you. How do think that makes them feel, huh? Look, I won't tell them about how ignorant you are, and you don't tell them about how creepy I think the name "SilentSister Isolation Cabinet" is, K? Just pretend that the following description is impressive (it is):

"Other Iso Cabs. . . have the microphone residing in a sealed compartment with the sound pressure from the speaker moving the microphone diaphragm. . . Instead of the microphone diaphragm existing in a free air environ, it is severely distorted. . . Secondly, the speaker feeds into this sealed compartment, as well as being mounted with the back of the cone in a sealed compartment. . . pushing into an air wall, as well as pulling back into an air wall. The result is a severe distortion of the cone shape [and]. . . a short life for the speaker as well as dreadful tone and a non-linear frequency response. Thirdly, is the square and perpendicular angles of the internal surfaces that create substantial standing wave issues that are reflected into the sound that is recorded.

"Rivera devised a way to relieve the air pressure issue by building an air labyrinth into the rear of the SilentSister cabinet. This labor intensive solution substantially attenuates the sound level while relieving the sealed compartment air pressure drawbacks. Also, each of the angles of the panels inside of the SilentSister are critically designed to relieve standing waves and reflections."

The 8 ohm SilentSister Cabinet comes prewired with Neutrik XLR connectors and twin, internal gooseneck microphone mounts:

The stock speaker is a Celestion G12T-75, mounted in a hardwood-core plywood, black Nyflex carpet finished frame and topped (bottomed?) off with casters for easy transport. Low-volume recording is an obvious application, but low-volume live performance (such as in small clubs, cafes and churches, are also a great fit. Speaking of great fits. . . stop putting your sister in the isolation cabinet, kid.
