Roland FR-7 V Accordion Takes Instrument Into Digital Realm

August 01, 2007
FR-7 V Accordion From Roland Makes Waves at Summer NAMM 2007

Roland's Summer NAMM 2007 booth offerings included yet another milestone in the development of electronic music. The Roland FR-7 V Accordion combines traditional instrumentation of the classic accordion with Physical Behavior Modeling (PBM) and MIDI integration. In this video we get Chris Rybak to put the instrument through its paces.

The FR-7 has the ability to simulate up to 30 different accordion sound groups, each including 14 Treble registers, 7 Bass & Chord Registers and 7 free bass registers. In addition, the accordion can simulate various orchestral sets.

Multiple types of bass can be played including: Acoustic Bass, Bowed Bass, Fingered Bass, Picked Bass, Fretless Bass, Bariton Tuba, Baritone Tuba + E.Bass. Overall, this is a huge step for the accordion, and provides sound sets for anything from French Musette to German Polka.

Roland FR-7 V Accordion

By: Luis Rodrigues (not verified)
I play cromatic (buttons type) accordion. I know Roland has also that type of accordion (cromatic) with the same features as the FR-7 V. I live in Langhorne, PA, near Philadelphia. I presently own an Excelsior accordion (which is a nice one, but not electronic or MIDI capable). The problem with Roland accordions is: 1) Where can I try that accordion? 2) How much does it cost? 3) Is there any sales or support distributor around this area. May be I could have an answer from you. Thank you.
