Roland FP-7F: FP Series Piano Gets SuperNatural Engine

September 01, 2010
Roland FP-7F digital piano offers the SuperNatural Piano sound engine, the PHA III Ivory Feel-S Keyboard and vocal mic input.

Say hello to the new Roland FP-7F Digital Piano, the most recent addition to Roland's FP series of pianos.

Though FP Series instruments are already portable pianos with a new design and onboard speakers, the FP-7F changes the game by adding four features new to the series: Roland’s SuperNatural Piano sound engine, the PHA III Ivory Feel-S Keyboard with Escapement, a vocal mic input with Harmony effects, and an onboard looper.

Before the FP-7F came along, the SuperNatural Piano engine was available only in the company's higher-end digital pianos. According to Roland, SuperNatural technology creates the ultimate piano playing experience, delivering seamless variations in tone from pianissimo to fortissimo, notes that fade naturally without looping, and three-dimensional sound and response.

In addition to its super engine, the new digital piano also features the PHA III Ivory Feel-S Keyboard with Escapement, which features progressive hammer action, an escapement mechanism, and realistic expression. Every key is constructed of a proprietary material that was designed to provide excellent moisture absorbency, and the white keys were made to replicate the appearance and feel of real ivory keys.

For singer-instrumentalists, the FP-7F provides a built-in microphone input and an onboard Harmony engine so that users can add duet, trio, and quartet harmonies to their own voice with effects from the Boss VE-20 Vocal Processor. To create the harmony voices, the Harmony engine automatically detects the chords the user plays on the keyboard in real-time.

The FP-7F also includes a looper that allows for recording and playing back performances as a continuous audio loop -- a nifty tool for creating play-along backing and unlimited overdubs. You can record the sounds of the FP-7F itself (including rhythm patterns from its large built-in library) or from a connected vocal microphone; save loops as WAV files to USB flash media; and use the FP-7F’s USB Audio Key playback feature.

This digital piano is available in either black (FP-7F-BK) or white (FP-7F-WH) finishes and comes standard with a DP-10 Damper Pedal. Other options include the matching KSC-44 stand and the RPU-3 Triple Pedal Unit. Adding on the RPU-3 turns the FP-7F into a true grand piano with three foot pedals.

Roland plans on releasing the FP-7F in November of 2010 for $2,190 (MSRP) for the black finish and $2,299 (MSRP) for the white finish. For more information about the FP-7F, please visit RolandConnect.com.
