Boss RE-20 Space Echo Demo: Part Two

July 31, 2007
Boss RE-20 Live Demo Part 2 at Summer NAMM 2007
We're back at Summer NAMM, and strangely enough we're also back at the Boss booth, still hanging around the Boss RE-20. The sounds of the original Space Echo have been faithfully reproduced, even including the tape flutter and magnetic head sound saturation. We get to hear more of all that with this exclusive, talk-light and riff-heavy Gearwire video.

More likely it's just some

By: fluffy
More likely it's just some bad clipping on the recording due to recording engineers who don't know how to mix.

in response

they couldn't give the audio guy a line out, so we had to use a condenser mic. The levels were fine, but their system sent out some weird distortion when recorded.

nope

By: butcher
He's playing through a jazz chorus amp. They don't make that type of distortion. The distortion in this clip is the preamps on the camera and the digital tape medium clipping. It's misleading to say that the distortion was Boss's fault, especially on a site that is supposed to help people learn about audio.

levels

By: bholland
the levels were fairly low (just below -12). My best guess is it had to do with mic placement in relation to the speaker. It may also have to do with the mic inputs on the Sony Cameras. Regardless, not Boss' fault, just normal trade show problems that arise.
