Ross Bencina AudioMulch 2.0: Impressive Music And Sound Programming Environment Is No Longer PC Exclusive
Programming environments like Max/MSP and Pure Data sure have exploded in popularity in the past few years. Still, the technical programming aspect might turn off some folks, especially musicians who would want to use the inherent flexibility of these programs in a live and improvisational context. Ross Bencina responded to this need by developing AudioMulch which, unlike Max, secializes in "high-level" function modules for on the fly virtual re-routing. Recently upgraded to version 2.0, AudioMulch features even more versatile functions, and now is available for Mac.
AudioMulch Version 2.0 delivers a major user interface update and possesses workflow improvements including drag-and-drop patching which add appeal to AudioMulch as a live performance instrument. Patchable MIDI routing, a new pattern editor, significant performance increases for audio processing, and new automation features are new additions to an already powerful musical environment. With its modular patcher-style user interface, AudioMulch promotes an improvisational approach to music making. A wide variety of musical tools ranging including timeline automation, MIDI control mapping system, and the "Metasurface" multiparameter controller makes it more than a complete music and sound manipulation interface perfect both for live performance, on-the-fly composition, and studio work.
What used to be one of the coolest things you can do on the PC alone is no longer the case as Ross Bencina has made it available for Mac as well. The first version of AudioMulch ran for approximately 10 years exclusively on the PC and version 2.0's foray into Mac is a significant step for the promulgation of AudioMulch. No longer will Mac users envy PC enthusiasts as they can now run AudioMulch themselves.
AudioMulch can be downloaded by PC and Mac users on Ross Bencina's web site as a 60-day trial version. The version 2.0 full license can be purchased for $189 for first-time users or for $89 as an upgrade from version 1.0.
