Sabian Chopper Cymbal Released: A Unique Percussion Instrument
October 05, 2007
Aside from its sun-like sleek looks, the new Sabian Chopper cymbal is definitely an interesting instrument to add to your percussion section. Used and praised by the likes of Mike Portnoy, Will Calhoun, and Rodney Howard, the Chopper serves multiple percussive applications.
The Chopper gets its name from its shape. Two out of the three bronze discs are cut into propeller shapes and loosely riveted together. These discs function to agitate each other for quick, white noise accents and rhythms.
Wayne Blanchard of Sabian issued this statement:
"The Chopper looks simple, but this is a very complex instrument designed to play accents and rhythms with equal effect. It does this through a combination of etched surfaces and a special die-cut design that lets the three discs vibrate and agitate together; creating the short burst of white noise that makes the Chopper so special."
The Chopper fits normally onto any cymbal stand in your drum setup. It is available in 8, 10, and 12 inch sizes.
