Sabian "One Of 100" Cymbals: Who Wants To Go Treasure Hunting In Canada?
Because it just makes sense, Sabian introduces their plan for "One of 100" soil-aged cymbals. Entertaining some interesting customer requests, Sabian has buried a load of cymbals somehwere near their factory in eastern Canada.
Sabian VP of Sales, Peter Stairs stepped up with his take on this odyssey of oddity:"Buried cymbals are the stuff of legend. Anecdotal comment indicates that aging the cymbals by burying them in soil actually helps shape their sound. Of course we are as curious as anyone to see what these cymbals sound like when they're pulled up from the earth. These are custom-sized 21" Artisan Medium Ride models in Natural Finish. They will have endured about eight months of dry, wet, hot and cold soil including the freezing temperatures of our Canadian winter. We anticipate they will be dirtier looking, and if what the legend says it true, they may be dirtier sounding as well."
Sounds like Sabian has been watching Mythbusters recently, no? Anyway, after they dig up the cymbals, the rides will be approved by the SABIAN Vault Team and packaged in a deluxe wood box with a certificate of authenticity signed by master product specialist Mark Love.
As the name implies, there will only be 100 cymbals in this collection, so if you're interested, snag one on Sabian's website before it's too late. Purchases begin on March 5th, 2009, and some of the proceeds will go to charity.
