sE Electronics R1 Ribbon Microphone Demonstrated
May 07, 2008
We take a look at another one of sE Electronics' microphones, and this time, it's the R1 Ribbon Microphone. Owen O'Malley provides the guitar licks as we give you an earful of both sides of the R1 to hear how each side has a distinct color to it.

where, oh where...
is britton when you need him
it would've been ok if it wasnt a line 6 amp.
its ok if its about auditioning the guitar or a particular riff,
but not when you are getting the feel of a mic!
real tubes, man, real tubes, PLEASE... would it be too much to ask for a video of this- redone- with a real tube amp? (a halfway decent one)?
thanks guys
I wasn't there...
I'm not sure of the reasons for it. My best guess is that when this was shot, the line 6 was the only solid state we had in the studio. Due to the fact that they were demoing a ribbon mic, which is super sensitive, they most likely wanted an amp that was solid state. We had two tube amps, an AC-15 and an Ampeg J-20, but I think that they decided to go with a solid state amp for the demo. Too bad this is the only one we had in the studio at the time.
