Sennheiser Evolution e965: Large-Diaphragm Condenser Mic Evolves Into Popular Line
Already gearing up for the 125th AES Convention in sunny San Francisco, home of the Tanner family, Sennheiser is prepping to introduce the Evolution e 965 microphone. Sennheiser is already billing it as the audio specialist's flagship product within the evolution range, and it's also the range's first large-diaphragm true condenser mic.
Sennheiser's associate product manager, Ben Escobedo, gave us his take:
"The e 965 is an outstanding vocal mic for enhancing the evolution 900 range. A completely new capsule architecture was designed for the e 965. It produces a very detailed, yet warm, full sound, and offers the mic optimal protection from humidity, so that it's rock-solid even during very heavy stage use."
Some other pluses that hold true to the e 965 include a wide frequency range, extensive dynamics and extremely low distortion. It feature a dual-diaphragm transducer so you can select either cardioid or super-cardioid polar patterns. High SPL applications are added by a -10dB pre-attenuation switch, and a low-cut filter eliminates impact noise and serves to cut down low-frequency overemphasis when you're miking close.
Handling noise is kept low by the shock-mount design. An integrated pop shield and windshield also do their parts to make this mic a very seamless choice that's perfect for lead singers.
