Sennheiser MKH 800 Twin: Double Your Pleasure, Multiply Your Polar Patterns

Sennheiser MKH 800 Twin

At the upcoming 2008 NAB Show, Sennheiser is preparing to unleash its new MKH 800 Twin microphone. It's based off of the original MKH, but the Twin aspect offers switchable polar patterns.

The MKH 800 Twin functions like a multi-pattern microphone without the switches. It generates patterns with front and back capsule outputs. Using both outputs allows you to turn capsules on or off for different patterns in mix-down. Sennheiser product manager Dawn Birr says:

"The MKH 800 Twin will become a new classic thanks to its incredible versatility, even after a recording session is complete. Whether you find you need a tighter or wider pattern for a few seconds or for several minutes in a certain part of the recording, the MKH 800 Twin makes it happen."

Recommended applications for the MKH 800 Twin include film scoring, symphonic recording, broadcasting, 5.1 surround, studio recording and even field recording. It is transparent with low self-noise and it is built to resist humidity.
