Shure Beta 91A Kick Drum Condenser Mic: Breaking Boundaries At 120th AES (Video)
Giving "four on the floor" a new meaning, the Shure Beta 91A is an update to their classic Beta 91 boundary microphones, a half-cardioid condenser designed for kick drum micing, but also suitable for a variety of other applications, including piano and ambiance.
Introduced at the 129th AES show in San Francisco, the Shure Beta 91A is an entirely new capsule design which — along with the other new Beta-series drum mics intro'd at the show — yields a more natural-sounding acoustic drum tone. The Beta 91A also integrates its phantom-powered preamp circuit, so there's no additional cabling or mounting to do before recording, and there's even an added a low-mid frequency shift switch in the bottom for added variety.
