Shure / NHCA Offer Free Hearing Screenings At 129th AES Convention

November 04, 2010
Shure and the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) are offering free hearing screenings at AES 2010.

If you will be attending AES 2010 this weekend, make a point to stop by Booth 1709, where you can get a free hearing screening from Shure and the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA).

Shure Incorporated and the NHCA have partnered once again to provide hearings tests, education, and more to the people who attend the AES convention, which begins today, November 4th and runs until November 7th, 2010.

The free screenings will be available during show hours in Booth 1709 at the AES Convention in the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California. An audiologist will be available to speak with test participants about their hearing screening results and offer additional hearing health information and educational materials.

"This continued partnership between Shure, NHCA, and the AES Technical Committee on Hearing and Hearing Loss is a real benefit to AES convention attendees," said Dr. Brian Fligor, chair of the NHCA Music-Induced Hearing Disorders taskforce. He continues, "Early identification of hearing disorders maximizes opportunities for technical solutions to optimize the engineer’s performance and prevent potentially career-threatening hearing injuries."

Shure is sponsoring the hearing screenings as part of the company’s Listen Safe program, which is dedicated to educating musicians, audio professionals, and consumers about how to enjoy sound responsibly.

Sandy LaMantia, president and CEO of Shure, comments, "Shure has long been a supporter of hearing conservation as a corporate cause. We are grateful for the NCHA’s shared enthusiasm and appreciate their efforts to help provide this service to the attendees at this year’s AES convention."

"While most audio professionals are savvy consumers of sound, hearing injuries such as tinnitus, abnormal pitch perception, loudness intolerance, and loss of hearing sensitivity often develop as a result of high sound exposures, and may be permanent," said Dr. Michael Santucci, President of Sensaphonics and Vice-Chair of the AES Technical Committee on Health and Hearing Loss. "Prevention is the key and a fully-informed and educated consumer is less likely to sustain such injuries."

Shure and the NHCA will be providing free hearing screenings all weekend at the AES convention. For more information about Shure Incorporated, visit shure.com. To find out more about the NHCA, visit hearingconservation.org.
