Shure X2u: In-Line Audio Interface Much Cooler Than In-Line Skating
Hometown favorites Shure had a few really smart design ideas at Winter NAMM 2009, and not all of them were relgated to their cool T-Shirts. The Shure X2u is an in-line, XLR-to-USB converter / interface that lets you to connect any of your most prized mics directly to your computer. It may have been done before, but Shure sure seems to have put some thought into it. Unlike me with that last sentence, there.
Shure's Chad "Charmer" Wiggins talks you through the X2u's specs.
CHAD WIGGINS: Hi. I'm Chad Wiggins from Shure Incorporated. We're here at NAMM 2009. We're here to show you some new products that we have.
The first one we'll start out with -- this is the model X2u. It is an XLR 2 USB adapter. This will enable you to connect any microphone to a computer for recording. Cool things about this product are (1) it's got a microphone preamp right on board, so it's got selectable gain so you can use this to record really quiet things to really load things or anything in between. Very flexible.
Another cool feature of the X2u is this headphone monitor, enabling you to do zero latency monitoring, so you can hear what you're recording in real time instead of that annoying latency that's associated with the round trip to and fro the computer. Headphone jack also has a dedicated headphone volume, so we encourage you always to listen at safe volumes.
And then, the last cool feature is this monitor blend switch, so that in your headphones, when you're listening to -- you can listen to a blend of things; either the microphone that you're using at that time or you can listen to sort of prerecorded material like if you have a click track going, maybe you have a scratch acoustic guitar track you need to sing in time and on pitch with those things. With this monitor switch, you can blend between what you're hearing in your headphones. And, additionally, it comes with -- well, it offers 48 Volts of phantom power, so that this can be used with dynamic microphones or condenser microphones.
Thanks for checking it out. I'm Chad Wiggins from Shure Incorporated, and this is the X2u.
