October 03, 2007
Most vocalists know enough about microphones to recognize merely the name Shure SM58, but Melissa Salcedo of Hazel Witch much prefers the ElectroVoice RE510. Patrick Ogle joins her on the road - find out why Melissa doesn't want to sing through anything else here.
Stay tuned to Gearwire.com for more On The Road with Hazel Witch.

Electro Voice RE510 and RE410
It's amazing to me that people choose a mic but don't really know why. The EV RE510 is so much better sounding than an SM58. It is a condenser mic not a 'compressor'. It will lift the vocals out on top of the mix without being harsh! They sound great! I prefer the RE410 for most vocals, but either will blow away any dynamic mic. I only use the RE410's for live shows. Most bands just know they are not SM58's and question it, sometimes even argue. But once they hear the difference there has never been one person want anything else again! Other live condenser mics work better than dynamic mics too, but for the money I like the EV RE410.
