Smallsound/bigsound Team_Awesome Fuzzmachine Comes Out Of Brooklyn
Brooklyn's smallsound/bigsound is a new effects making outfit and they are announcing the release of the team_ awesome fuzzmachine. The pedal is a full-range, bass booming fuzz pedal that smallsound/bigsound says also has a clean blend and loads of gain on tap. The pedal employs germanium transistors.
The TAFM is a the fuzz pedal for bassists looking for a wall of sound while also keeping their low end intact. But it is also a pedal that guitarists looking for saturated fuzz and "gnarly" feedback. You keyboardists can even use the pedal to get some "freaked-out fuzz mayhem" happening. Just imagine what this would do to vocals. I bet a vocalist would sound like Godzilla crushing a Japanese village if they attached this to their mic (this last sentence is not endorsed by the pedal maker or anyone else except me).
The TAFM signal is split into a clean channel and fuzz channel, each with independent control over volume. The fuzz channel uses reversed germanium transistors to get a saturated sound with unique harmonic structure. Reverse-biased germanium diodes are placed in the circuit to provide temperature stability, a problem often found in other germanium circuits. Internal trim pots allow users more control over bias, feedback and maximum volume capable of destroying speakers at the extreme end. Controls also include filter shape and fuzz intensity.
These pedals are hand stamped and wired so they all look different while being sonically consistent. The TAFM will set you back $185.
The folks at smallsound/bigsound also make custom pedals and plan new models in the near future.
