Fender Billy Corgan Stratocaster: Corgan And Fender Build Heavy Metal Machine
July 10, 2008
In 1991, Billy Corgan's favorite guitar was stolen at a show, and until Fender teamed up with the Smashing Pumpkins leader for the Billy Corgan Stratocaster, he hasn't had a guitar that felt truly like it was his own. Is it any coincidence that the number 17 -- as many years as the interim between now and the burglary of his go-to guitar -- plays so prominently in his music (check out Adore for reference)?
Justin Norvelle of Fender talks about the making of this guitar and Billy's hands on role. If it was anything like the making of Siamese Dream, Billy probably decided to build the guitar himself, but unless D'arcy Wretzky and James Iha work for Fender, Corgan probably left the building to the masters.
