Fender Elvis Costello Jazzmaster: Gearwire Spies The New Jazzmasters
If you're familiar with Declan Patrick MacManus, you know that he later briefly changed his name to D.P. Costello before settling on Elvis Costello, realizing that the initials he had been given by his parents very unfortunate. Still, it's not as bad as D.P. MacManus would have been -- the kids at school would've had a field day with that one; I can think of a few good jabs already -- but that's besides the point.
This evolving nomenclature concurred with a musical evolution, and Elvis Costello soon transformed himself from a UK pub rocker to a punk and new wave icon, using his Jazzmaster as his evolving rod. Fender took note and with the 50th anniversary of the Jazzmaster, they released the Elvis Costello Signature Jazzmaster.
It's got the specs that made Costello's ax famous including the walnut refinish and Costello's name on the headstock. It also has a higher, looser tremolo bar for Elvis' signature "Spy Movie" twang. Apparently, Mr. Costello also enjoyed the Agent Cody Banks films. Two stars, Frankie Muniz -- but when did you ever get a mohawk? Go Clippers, I guess.
