Sonoris Meter 2.0: All You Ever Needed To Know About Metering Probably Wasn't Taught In Kindergarten

Sonoris Meter 2.0

I don't know too many people who go all out when a new metering plugin hits the net, but Sonoris has come out with version 2.0 of Sonoris Meter. Perhaps you've found something always particularly fetching about the color scheme of traffic lights, or perhaps more practically, you would like to measure peak and loudness levels of your signals with pinpoint precision, but regardless of your motives, let's all find some reason to get pumped about it.

Sonoris Meter 2.0 supports multiple metering scales including a regular scale as well as mastering wizard Bob Katz's K-System. Bob Katz assisted Sonoris with information to ensure that Meter 2.0 stays as true as possible to K-System specs like Leg(A) loudness metering and band-limited pink noise monitor calibration.

The SMTR also has an oversampling peakmeter mode which catches intersample peaks that might tire out your ears when listening to your mixes and completed tracks on standard CD players. Lots of these players have pretty unstable D/A conversion that can't handle samples above clip level, but in oversampling mode, the STMR models the D/A conversion process so you can maximize the level without distortion in the end.

A correlation meter is also displayed on the bottom of the interface (unavailable in the article photo). It lets you monitor the phase relationship between the right and left channels.

Fast Features:

  • K-System metering, closely following the K-System spec. with three metering sets:
    • K12 for broadcast productions
    • K14 for home theatre, pop, rock, folk, etc
    • K20 for wide dynamic music
  • Regular, non K-system scale also available
  • High resolution metering of peak and loudness levels on the same scale
  • Intersample peak metering mode
  • Correlation meter
  • Peakhold function with resetable indicators or 10 seconds hold
  • Loudness measurement methods: RMS/flat (AES-17) and Leq(A-weighted)
  • Pink noise output (left, right or stereo) for monitor calibration of 0dBr / 83dB
  • Adjustable number of consecutive overs before clipping
  • Resettable clipping indicators
  • Resettable clipping incident counters
  • Mousewheel support
  • All samplerates supported
  • Low CPU load
  • Settings can be saved
  • 64-bit resolution
