Spaun Edgevent shells are now being offered in full, pre-configured kits. The Edgevent snare drum design has -- ahem -- spawned a whole series of shells, from rack toms to kicks, meaning drummers can now experience the "Edgevent sound" on every drum.

Edgevent drums are a unique, dual-shell construction design. The outer shell -- the one with the "vents" -- is fitted with all the hardware (lugs, spurs, strainer, etc.). The inner shell, then, is one continuous piece of wood, free to resonate without disruption. The shells are joined by a vented wooden hoop. The resultant sound is described by Spaun as being "fat, warm. . . with excellent attack and sustain."

The layered, vented shells also present a unique aesthetic opportunity. Customers can specify different colors for the interior and exterior shells, as well as different vent styles -- "Swiss Cheese" is an option, natch. Combine this with Spaun's interior lighting option, and you've got the gaudiest shell kit this side of Terry Bozzio.
