Speaking Piano: Austrians Use Technology To Give Us Nightmares

File under "Things That Make You Go 'AAAAAAAA!"" This terrifying project comes our via Create Digital Music (also via MatrixSynth, et al), is really the best of what [Austrians] do best: blur the boundaries between humans and machines in a way that's both intriguing and disturbing.
This speaking piano is "playing" human speech, thanks to some audio-to-midi trickery and quite impressive interface implementation, courtesy Austrian composer Peter Ablinger.
That's all we can really say about it. CDM, MatrixSynth and Hack-A-Day all do some extensive pondering trying to figure out how exactly this was accomplished. I'm too creeped-out to enquire.

I can't wait to see which movie first uses this invention. I was surprised at how easy it is to understand the piano "talking" ...gives me chills...
