Splurgo Harmonica, Splurgo Acoustic Ballad Guitars: Oh, Splurgo
The developers at Splurgo are like intrepid adventurers, constantly exploring the fine line between "inexpensive" and "cheap" with their "charming" loop collections. The latest releases can be yours for a mere $8.95 each, and could actually work pretty well together -- whether that's by coincidence or intentional planning is anybody's guess. The collections are called "Acoustic Guitar Ballads" and "Harmonica."
Splurgo Acoustic Guitar Ballads is a collection of 65 files of acoustic guitar rhythm licks in 6/8. Splurgo offers this "clever" description:
"6/8 Timing or compound time signatures or that weird waltz type stuff your parents know about, used to be rather popular. However it has fallen out of favor for the more danceable 4/4 time that most everything is done in today. So by using these loops you can now consider your music as experimental. For what is new is now old and what was old is now new. Thanks Guitar Hero!"
*sigh*
Splurgo Harmonica is a bunch of bluesy licks in C and D, 60 files in total. Though branded as loops, the samples up on the Splurgo product page don't really "loop" very well. They'd probably be better suited as one-hits or accents. Whatever.
Both collections include .wav and .aiff files named for easy identification of time signature and key (ex: "Harmonica-C-100-01.aiff"). The loops are formatted for Sony Acid Pro and Apple Loops for drop-in usability and, like I said, they're only nine bucks. Still, I recommend you listen before you commit to the download.
