Want to make sounds with stuff you just have lying around? Check out this exclusive Gearwire video with sound artist Eric Leonardson, who introduces his "springboard," a contact microphone-enabled instrument which probably cost a total of about five bucks (including the train fare to get the stuff home). If you amplify it enough, almost anything can become a sound-making device. Also, it helps if you play it with a cello bow.
WARNING: Some of these sounds are, um, not exactly what you might want to listen to first thing in the morning. But don't we all get that sometimes?

Enjoyed the video very much. I've seen Eric play this instrument live and the full range of sounds is really amazing. It jives well with other percussionists, electronic sounds and special vocalists.
