Steinberg Cubase RC iPhone / iPod Touch Application: "Sorry, Wrong Number . . . Of Beats Per Minute!!!"
Man, there's so many little gizmos and gadgets lying around my house: my cell phone, my iPod, my laptop, my PDA, my LCD video poker game, my remote DAW controller. If only there was some way to combine all these disparate functions into one, sleek, Jobs-approved unit. OMG, there is, thanks to the new Steinberg Cubase RC application for the Apple iPod Touch / iPhone!!!
Available as a free iPod application from the iTunes store (starting sometime during the second-quarter, 2009) Steinberg Cubase RC, or Remote Control, will provide wireless control over many basic functions of the new Cubase 5. The most obviously useful of these is the comprehensive transport controls. You'll be able to use your iPhone / iPod Touch's touch screen to remotely record, stop and playback your track -- very useful if you're recording yourself in the live room and your studio intern has called in sick again (a call you fielded with your iPhone; neat!). There are even controls for marker placement, metronome settings and toggling cycle mode on/off.
For live performance, Cubase RC provides complete access over the Cubase Arranger function in Cubase 5. Trigger playback stems, assemble playlists, jump between sections of a project and text that looker in the front row all with one hand throwing the peace sign (or the British "Eff Off!!!"; I always confuse those two).
Cubase RC is compatible with both Mac OS X and Windows initialized iPods and iPhones, giving you remote control over Cubase 5 regardless of what operating system it's running on.

My biggest concern...
...as an iPhone owner (and, admittedly, obsessee) is one that is all but universally overlooked. If you've taken your iPhone (or any networked device, really) in a control room, you'll notice one, huge, glaring problem: interference. You know, that nasty clicking and popping you get when you leave your phone on top of your amp and a call comes in? 'Turn on airplane mode, you say.' Well, how shall I network with my machine via wi-fi with my wi-fi/3G/EDGE shut off? Also, how many legit recording setups even have wi-fi enabled on their computer?
Great concept, horrible execution.
your right Henry
In most cases, wifi impedes your workstation somehow, and it's usually the first thing tech support tells you to turn off when you've got problems with your rig. but there is a solution and most will have it already, if your cubase host is connected via ethernet to your wireless router, you should be in for smooth sailing with this app. I think steinberg should integrate the click/metronome to come out of the iphone/ipod speaker. so you can truly get away from the workstation with just a mic, I think the creative process for a single artist would benefit from it.
