Steinberg Nuendo 5.5: Improved Audio Post-Production Tools, At Your Fingertips
To go along with the recent release of the Cubase 6 music-production system, Steinberg released Nuendo 5.5, a maintenance update with many workflow features highlighted in Cubase 6, most notably, its new and improved editing features.
One of the top features of Nuendo version 5.5 is its new editing functionality. To speed up workflow in audio production environments, Nuendo 5.5 reorganizes its multitrack editing tools, grouping events and editing functions across multiple lanes so that they sit alongside reworked transient hitpoint detection and phase-stable audio quantization. The audio / MIDI lane editing for quick comping provides an efficient recording experience, Steinberg says, while added élastique Pro algorithms provide quality real-time time stretching and pitch shifting. Nuendo 5.5 also offers an advanced offline processing, automation editing with improved trimming functions, the VST Amp Rack plugin, tempo detection, and full 64-bit support for Mac.
Other improvements to Nuendo 5.5 include an updated video engine, improved Quick Controls for extended accessibility, and better compatibility with external software applications, such as through the refined Advanced Authoring Format (AAF) for cross-platform interoperability.
The optional NEK 5.5 update features VST Expression 2, which is based on the latest 3.5 version of Virtual Studio Technology (VST) and includes Note Expression -- a way to assign, create, and edit multiple controller values on single-note level. Further highlights of this add-on are the HALion Sonic SE virtual workstation, the latest version of LoopMash for mixing loops together, and the combination of Groove Agent ONE and Beat Designer for creating intricate drum patterns.
