Strymon Brigadier dBucket Delay: The Pedal Only A dBucket Could Hate (Video)
Rack-mount delay units certainly aren't considered cool anymore — unless you still consider stretch denim 'cool' — but there's no denying the power they afforded the sonically innovative guitarist. What if you could squeeze the processing power and multitude of control parameters of a rack effects unit into a stompbox? Well, you'd probably get something very like the Strymon Brigadier dBucket Delay.
The Brigadier Delay isn't your father's analog-emulating digital effect. Nor is 'dBucket' a fun new derogatory for dudes who talk on their bluetooth headset while standing in front of a urinal; dBucket is Strymon's virtual bucket-brigade algorithm, one that's intensely processor-hungry. In order to sufficiently power the effect, the Brigadier makes use of a single SHARC floating-point DSP chip — a bit of hardware usually found in large-format digital live consoles — dedicating the entirety of the chip's computing power to creating a delay that sounds like . . just watch the video whydontcha?
