Studio Mixers

Allen & Heath announced the ZED-16FX and ZED-18 -- two new multi-purpose live sound and recording mixers featuring 10 fully-featured mono channels and 3 or 4 dual stereo channels.  

There's a lot of promise in a mixer called "StudioLive" — about twice as much promise as most mixers make. Does the PreSonus StudioLive 16.4.2 Digital Mixer live up to its moniker? We asked engineer Rick Weldon to take it for a couple of spins and let us know what he thought.

PreSonus is now shipping the new StudioLive 16.0.2 digital recording and performance mixer. This addition to the StudioLive line puts the same audio quality and features as the two larger StudioLive models into a more compact, portable size.  

Renegade Labs is now shipping its M16 Digital Suite Audio Mixer, a control surface aimed at at video editing facilities, designed to be used with the company's 328 | MXE processing chassis.

"The ZED-series taken to the next step" is a good intro to the Allen & Heath GS-R24 recording console, but that shorthand still barely does justice to this mixer / DAW-controller / audio interface. We got a tour of the new board at the recent AES show.  

This mixer is invisible. Yeah, yeah, we know you can see it. But in acoustic terms the board built and designed by Eric Valentine with his partner Larry Jasper and branded UnderToneAudio is like a bunch of knobs floating in space. Watch the video to find out what we're talking about.  

Paul Wolff designs a bunch of highly-lauded, modular recording gear under the ToneLux name. It only makes sense that he'd offer them all in a unified desk design. Check out the ultra-cool ToneLux Series 28 analog mixing console in this video from the 129th AES show.  

While the readers of this fair site may not be in the market for an $80k analog console any time soon, it's good to know that the demand for large-format boards is back. So says Malcolm Toft, founder of Trident Designs and designer of the new Series 82 console, on display at this past AES show in San Francisco.

The new PreSonus StudioLive 24.4.2 digital mixer has been officially released with an estimated Street tag of $3,299. The unit is similar to the StudioLive 16.4.2, but adds eight additional channels (for 24 in all), lots of I/O, and enhanced features.
