T-Rex Engineering Reptile 2: New Delay Effect Pedal For Guitar And Bass

November 26, 2010
T-Rex Engineering Reptile 2 is a new hardware delay effect pedal for guitar and bass, featuring Tap Tempo and more.

Reptilian pedals are back with a vengeance in a new and improved form, now that T-Rex Engineering has released the Reptile 2 delay effect pedal for guitar and bass.

The Reptile 2 delay pedal, the "baby brother" of the T-Rex Replica pedal, adds to the original Replica's controls Tap Tempo, an enhanced Flutter section, and more. Tap Tempo allows you to control the tempo of your delay by tapping a button with your foot while you play. According to the manufacturer, the Reptile 2 provides you with full control of your delay on stage, by letting you match the speed of your delay effect to the tempo of your music without ever missing a beat. T-Rex also notes that the new Reptile 2 still delivers the same warm vintage tone associated with the Replica.

Its enhanced Flutter section, which boasts a new Tone control, introduces a touch of random-sounding "warble" to your delay for a retro tape-effect sound. Likewise, the Tone control lets you take the top end off your delayed repeats for an even more authentic vintage tone.

The new Reptile 2 pedal's streamlined orange user interface sports four control knobs for adjusting Echo, Level, Repeat, and Time; and a Tempo button and Flutter Width, Speed, and Tone knobs for further control.

Echo determines the mix of direct and delayed signal; you can turn it down for a more natural effect or crank it up for doubling effects or long delay effects. The Repeat knob lets you control the number of times a sound is repeated, while Time determines the rate that your echo repeats. Likewise, the Flutter Width and Speed controls let you simulate and adjust the tape-delay "warbled" effect, and the Tone knob lets you take off the high-end edge from the delay repeats for a more authentic vintage sound. Hitting the Tempo button activates Tap Tempo. The Input Level knob on the side of the unit eliminates overdrive distortion caused by too high an input signal.
