Tannoy Reveal 501a Active Reference Monitors Auditioned By Owen (Video)
We got the chance to preview the new Tannoy Reveal 501a reference monitors, and Owen was duly impressed by the unflattering response and bass depth of these active reference monitors. He was even more impressed when he learned their price point: these monitors retail for about $180 US, making them very strong contenders for any home or project studio (or a second pair in a professional setup).
Now, we know you can't get an accurate idea of what nearfield monitors actually sound like from a streaming web video, but you might be interested to hear Owen's first impressions of the Tannoy Reveal 501a's regardless. I mean, who else uses the word "daguerreotype" when talking about nearfield sweet-spot width? Ulysses S. Grant? He's dead, man!

Zoom h4n
Based on your great reviews of the Zoom H4N I purchased one and have recorded about 100 hrs of sound files which I then burned onto cd's. Everything works perfect and I am always watching what you review and then making my decisions on what to buy.
Thanks for the easy to understand and entertaining videos. They are excellent !
How about doing some cars ?
I have actually been
I have actually been considering either these Tannoys or the KRKs that you compared them to! I'm probably getting the Tannoys now.
Also, I took a closer listen to that At the Drive In track, and that is one amazing bass tone! I think it's a Fender, not a Music Man, by the way (if that was what you meant).
Anyways, thanks for a really helpful review!
Tannoy Reveal 501a
They are not magnetically shielded.
Regards.
JM.
I'd love more info!
I can't believe this is the only review for these new Tannoys. It's a great review... I'm not complaining about it. Hell, I was thankful to read it, but what I'm really interested in are the 601p monitors, and I can't find any reviews at all. Passive monitors are becoming a dying breed!
I do find it curious that none of these 501a/601a/601p seem to be magnetically shielded. I wonder why not. Cost, I assume?
I'm dying to know how the 601p monitors sound compared to the previous 6 inch Tannoys. I'm surprised by how affordable the new models are. $250 for a pair of 601p passives. Wow!

adam or tannoy
hi
i've a prodipe sub excellent, and need excellent monitors like Adam Audio A3X or Tannoy Reveal 501a Active, at this budget(around $300_400).
please help me in my choice between these 2 monitors, i dont need bass response because i've the prodipe sub pro10s. i think adam tweeter is better than tannoy but not sure
Great job
Fantastic review , great to see and hear Owen's reactions to this product . Not found anything else quite like this review on the internet . Keep it up and thanks a bunch .
Excellent review
Thanks for the excellent review!! By far the most intelligent review I've read or seen in my research of these Tannoys. Many thanks! I might offer a humble suggestion for future monitor reviews - it would be nice to have acoustic music also represented in the course of the review. That aside, once again, many thanks for this cogent and helpful review!
Blue skies,
Devin
