TAPCO "THUMP" TH-18s Active Subwoofer: "THUMP" Is What It's Called; "THUMP" Is What It Does.

January 22, 2008
TH-18 Active Suwoofers by Tapco.

Listen, you need subwoofers. I don't care that you're a mobile DJ on a public-school budget, and yes, I know they're a pain. Subs are heavy, expensive, and need a hell of a lot more power to push the ultra-low frequencies [meaning an additional, dedicated amp], but face it: you're system ain't ace if it ain't got that bass. [Alternately: you expect me to crump when you can't provide thump?]

Fret no more, itinerant, cash-strapped jockey of discs. Tapco [by Mackie, savvy?] has announced their new THUMP Th-18s, an 18-inch active subwoofer to complement their TH-15a active PA speakers. Yeah, that's right. These guys are self-powered, meaning no more extra 500,000,000 watt amp just so you can do justice to the sweet bass lines of Tony Toni Toné's "Feels Good." Yes, it does feel good! These subs bring it, and in this case, "it" = "THE THUMP".

Besides being far cooler looking than most any other sub on the market, the THUMP's have a host of practical features:

  • 500-watt Class-D amplifier
  • low-end response from 35Hz-125Hz
  • ported bass-reflex enclosure
  • stereo I/O and pass thru
  • stereo High Pass output (120Hz)
  • Polarity switch
  • Rear Clip LED
  • standard pole mount for the TH-15A

To paraphrase an age-old question: who puts the "thump" in the "thump-dee-bump-dee-bump?" Tapco, that's who(m).
