Tascam M-164 Analog Mixer Series Just About Sums Up The State Of The World Economy
I like how this MusikMesse is working out so far: a bunch of products that represent either streamlined or more cost-conscious versions of previous "pro-sumer" products. Though they werem't present in corporeal form, the new Tascam M-164 mixer series is yet another new product that seems designed with the practical-minded home recordist in mind.
The planned M-164 line (click here for a larger version of the rendering shown at left) will include three models in all, the M-164, the M-164FX and the M-164UF. All three mixers will feature six XLR ins and 5 stereo TRS pairs for a total of sixteen inputs. The six mic channels will sport three band EQs and the stereo channels as well as the main output will have two-band EQs. Channels 9-10 will sport an additional RIAA stereo phono input, and an LCD meter bridge will adorn the top of the mixer, providing input and output level feedback. In an effort to make these mixers flexible enough for both live and studio work, Tascam plans on designing them with sub and main output busses and two aux sends.
The M-164FX will add effects, natch, specifically a stereo processor with 16 presets for reverb, delay, chorus, etc. The M-164UF will feature a USB 2.0 connection, making this variation a 16-in, 2-out, 240bit 96kHz audio interface.
Pricing and availability are still "who knows, man, we're still looking at a computer rendering of the thing, for Pete's sake."
