Tascam 2488 Neo: The Flagship Portastudio, Reloaded
Do you live your life with the vague feeling that there's something not right. . . with your final mix? You're not alone. Tascam has introduced the 2488 Neo to free you from the tyranny of unmastered audio and bland aesthetic style.
The 2488 Neo improves upon it's previous incarnations with the inclusion of a suite of mastering effects that'll breath life back into your dull stereo masters and give them a professional sheen. The mastering effects include a multi-band EQ, and compressors and limiters tuned for that final, most important stage in the audio-production process.
The 2488 Neo also features a new look, utilizing the "bold" color scheme of, umm, different shades of gray.
Of course, the NEO still retains the features that have made the 2488s so popular: eight simultaneous inputs including four XLR mic inputs with phantom power, 44.1kHz, 24-bit digital resolution, and 80 GB hard drive, integrated CD burner, USB 2.0 uplink for file transfer to computer, and an easy to understand layout. The onboard pre-mix effects include reverb, 9 different compressors, and even a guitar amp simulator for direct instrument recording.
I heard a rumor somewhere that the idea for the 2488 Neo was actually stolen by Tascam from a forty-year-old writer of Conor Oberst fan-fiction, and I'm no copyright lawyer, but that dude also claims to have invented phantom power and "ambiance," so i think Tascam's safe.

i still like the TASCAM analog multi track machines
I was around when the first teac 4 track was released all through 4 8 16 & 24...i wish sometimes that i could have the best of the both worlds...but, i believe spare parts would be a PROBLEM./.
THE tascam 2488 neo is still a brilliant machine... i really have loved TASCAM / teac RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. regards.
Tascam 2488 neo
Bought mine new about 9 months ago and love it. The manual is a bit of a Japanenglish monster but the Tascam Owners forum has a download of some really helpful notes donated by a member that tells you the stuff they dont put in the manual. Also worth getting the excellent DVD recommended on the same site.
I got them all and all of a sudden it all started making sense.
Great sound and HUGE capabilities.
