How difficult is it, really, to record decent-sounding drum tracks? Let the preponderance of drum sample libraries and percussion loop libraries out there serve as an answer. If you're a Propellerhead Record fan who's also a fan of drums that don't sound like crap, you're sure to subsequently become a fan of the new Record Drum Takes collections, three styles in three volumes of backing track performances presented as multitrack sessions stems and preset mixer settings for your next project.  

Propellerhead Software has updated its Reason Record Duo, giving Record 1.5 and Reason 5 new instruments, effects, sequencing, sounds, patches, and enhanced features.  

Xaphoon Jones (aka Noah Beresin) is one half of electronic/rap duo Chiddy Bang. He handles a lot of the production work and one of his workhorses in that arena is ReCycle 2.1.  

Along with Record 1.5, the proposed updates to Propellerhead Reason 5 will be entering beta testing as well. Reason 5 will include some pretty impressive new features, including a reworked Rex loop player, an entirely new, MPC-style drum machine, and the ability to live sample into any sample player rack element. Yep: Reason with audio recording.  

Over the past five days, Proellerhead has been announcing piecemeal the planned features in the upcoming Reason 5 and Record 1.5 major updates. New features in Propellerhead Record 1.5 include a radical pitch-correction / vocal synthesis tool called Neptune and a new song-based arrangement tool called Block mode.  

Reborn with a slim, touch-sensitive layout and interface, Propellerhead's ReBirth music production software is now available as an app for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. ReBirth comes with dual TB-303 emulations, plus a TR-808, TR-909, onboard effects, and more.  

From Philly to Long Island traveled GW's Owen O'Malley for this next installment of the Propellerhead Record recording journal. After tracking harp in a three-story brownstone, he sets up to get down some upright bass in a barn loft.  

Owen puts Propellerhead Record through its paces as he tracks acoustic guitar in Chicago, harp in Philadelphia, and upright bass in Long Island, though not in that order.

Bad news, everyone: the public beta testing for Propellerhead Record is over. But wait, that means that Record is now officially available for purchase worldwide! Good news, everyone!  

The Rumors (spread by Propellerhead) were confirmed this weekend (by Propellerhead) as true! The makers of Reason have unveiled their new Digital Audio Workstation product, Propellerhead Record, and you can get in on the beta testing action between now and Record's official release date, September 9, 2009. Man, how did they ever come up with a name like "Record"?!  

There's a rumor going 'round, and here's the reason: according to FutureMusic.com, Propellerhead is set to unveil a new digital audio workstation program, one that -- get this -- can actually record audio. We'll have to wait until the Propellerhead Producer's Conference on May 9th to find out exactly what that means, but that hasn't stopped the blogosphere from speculating like a BearStearn's rep unloading CDOs.
