John Tempesta plays a Tama Starclassic kit. He also plays other Tama drums and has all sorts of nice things to day about the company. Tempesta has quite a rock n roll resume and is currently touring with The Cult. In addition to drumming he has been a drum tech. He knows of what he speaks.  

Last Summer NAMM 2009, as expected, introduced and featured a lot of new products. While there was a lot of emphasis on electronic equipment such as microphones, acoustic instruments, especially percussion, were not forgotten. Introducing a new concept in snare drum sound and technology, the Tama Starphonic snare drums made their way into the trade show scene.  

Aside from being able to ride his bicycle without the usual accommodation of handlebars, Flobots drummer Kenny Ortiz can hold his own behind a set. He cannot, however, play a show without bringing his Tama Starclassic G Maple Snare.  

Popular and populist Japanese drummer Soul Toul has been winning hearts and minds for over thirty years. Working with drum manufacturer Tama, Soul has developed a custom-quality drum that any beginner can afford.  

Tom Stukel is the man behind the kit with Mikey Peterson and the Trust. The minimalist kit he uses live belies his percussive influences (Bozzio, Copeland).  

We check out some more snare drums courtesy of Tama's Terry Bissett. He shows us the Metalworks series limited edition snares in all of their sonic and artistic glory.

Tama heard your calls for an 8x14" snare drum, and their two-fold answer comes in the forms of the AM1 and SM1. Terry Bissett from Tama gave us a rudimentary (get it?) demo of the new drums at Summer NAMM.

Tama's bubinga-fetish was on full, unapologetic display at Summer NAMM in Nashville. Two of their Bubinga Reserve Kits were high atop the Tama podium like towering idols to the bubinga gods. The BB kit was just kinda hangin' out, you know, seeing what was goin' on.  

If I was a turtle, I'd want one of Tama's new Birch Bubinga shells. . .

Yeah, I'm disappointed in myself, too.  

Tama's Superstar kits have been outfitted with Hyper Drive series toms for 2008. This gives them a more defined, unique sound that is unlike any comparably priced kit.
