TC Helicon

Gearwire's new guest blogger Joe Charupakorn got to hang out at this year's New York Amp Show. Now, through the magic of video, we join him in the hallowed hotel rooms of said amp show. Here, we take a look at and a pleasant listen to the TC-Helicon VoiceLive2.  

The new TC Helicon VoiceTone Synth is the latest in the long line of VoiceTone pedals, and also the baddest. By which we mean bestest. By which me mean we no longer adhere to conventions of mainstream grammar.  

The TC Helicon VoiceLive has long been highly regarded as a lead vocalist's effects tool. With the introduction of the VoiceLive 2 at Winter NAMM '09, crooners now get even more beef from harmonies to new effects to a more convenient way to call up your settings.  

The TC Helicon VoinceTone Harmony-M was designed to track your keyboard playing via MIDI, and generate vocal harmonies based on what you were playing. Except, it didn't track chords that well. Now it does. Awesome!  

Sometimes, it's a good thing to have access to every editable parameter in your vocal harmonizing pedal -- compression, EQ, de-essing, key, interval, etc. -- provided, of course, you have the time and relevant engineering knowledge. Sometimes it's better to have TC Helicon figure that stuff out for you.  

Much like Bill Holland, Kill Memory Crash survived the mid-90s Detroit rave scene before eventually landing in Chicago. Both parties head back to Detroit for Movement 2008 and presumably to catch a Pistons playoff game with Kid Rock.  

It's a common quandary: you love the sound of your own doubled vocals, but you aren't one of a set of identical twins, or, even more painful, your twin is an investment banker and refers to your career as a "childish hobby." Well we'll show them, won't we. Mwah ha ha!
