TC Electronic Staccato'51: Putting The Groove Into Groovy And Punchy Bass Playing

October 05, 2009
TC Electronic Staccato'51

Tower Of Power's "power" cannot rest entirely on its horn section. The ever present backbone for Tower Of Power, the rhythm section team of Francis Rocco Prestia and David Garibaldi, brings in a great deal of that groove loved by Tower Of Power's listeners. One distinct feature of Tower Of Power's groove is the staccato bass lines of Francis Rocco Prestia that matches David Garibaldi's drum work, and the TC Electronic Staccato'51 brings in that dry percussive power to the Tower Of Power bassist's work.

Simple and straightforward usage along with a clear sound are must-haves for Mr. Prestia's funky percussive bass playing, and the Stacatto'51 deals that. The small book-sized red-colored amp is a custom-tuned version of the RH450 that has a full-bodied tone with a good amount of highs and lows and fast response which suits perfectly with Francis Rocco Prestia's playing. The TC SpectraComp per-string compression tightens up the sound more and TubeTone brings out that low-end growl. Overall, these features give the aptly named Staccato'51 that tight and funky sound.
