Yamaha TENORI-ON: Select Units May Have Battery Defect

TENORI-ON Recall

In 1999, Burger King recalled 25 million Pokemon balls from kids' meal toys to prevent choking. Four years later, Disney recalls 40,000 "Woody" dolls because children could choke on the buttons. Yamaha joins them on a much smaller scale, recalling TENORI-ONs with select serial numbers because one particular unit failed to work with batteries and actually overheated the batteries.

While this doesn't seem as disastrous and potentially traumatic as choking on Pokemon balls or parts of a Woody, Yamaha wants to ensure that their innovative new product works reliably for everyone. This article about fear of exploding Dell Laptop batteries from aught-six should simultaneously quell your worries about TENORI-ON batteries and bring forth a new set of fears about walking around outside, sitting on chairs and, of course, choking to death.

So fear not, Yamaha's offering a free recall on these following TENORI-ON serial numbers. They'll even toss you a free SD Card for your troubles if your unit needs to be modified:

By: ipad case (not verified)

One of creator Toshio Iwai's primary objectives in creating the Tenori-on was to bring electronic music composition to the masses, and turning the unit on makes the process almost immediately recognizable: a vertical bar of LEDs loops from left to right across the 16 x 16 grid. Pressing any of the buttons on the 16 x 16 grid makes a sound when pressed momentarily.
