The Stribe: Turn On The Magic Of Shining Lights
Sure, you could use The Stribe to control anything that's MIDI controller compatible, including soft synths, sequencer parameters and even video players. Thing is, I could go for hours just playing with the light-up controller strips on the unit, which may be the whole point of The Stribe
Having a unit that houses eight ribbon-type fader controllers is not, in and of itself, very interesting. What makes The Stribe unique is its touch responsive array of 1,024 three-color LEDs. Check it:
See what I mean? It doesn't matter what the dude's triggering, I'm all about the LIGHTS, man THE LIGHTS!
Here's the good news folks: The Stribe can be ordered from Mr. Boughey (the inventor / builder) in kit form, so you can build your own. The bad news: The Stribe comes to you in kit form, so you have to build it yourself.
If you're into that sort of thing, head on over to soundwigets.com and place your order. If, like me, you merely content to stare at the pretty lights, here's some more eye-narcotic for you:
PRETTY.

minor correction
"What makes The Stribe unique is its touch responsive array of 1,024 three-color LEDs"
Actually, they are not 3-color LEDs, just assorted single-color LED bargraphs. Three-color LEDs is a possibility in future models (and in fact I'm working on such a circuit right now). And it is not the LEDs that are touch responsive, but the strips.
I think what's unique about the Stribe is that the LEDs (output) can animate separately from where you touch the strips (input).
In the videos above, the Stribe is in it's default "cursor" mode, where the LEDs follow your fingers. It is possible to programatically animate the LEDs to indicate all sorts of things, like this:

Of course there is much programming to be done, but you get the idea.
Right now the Stribe Prototype is available as a kit or pre-built, here:
