Dave Kelly of the hard rock/industrial rock act Triptaka plays a Dean USA Razorback Camo, While it isn't the only guitar he uses he picked it up recording the band's latest CD, Second War.

"On our album "Second War" we recorded with a bunch of guitars, and the Dean was brought in when ass kickin' was needed. The deep, rich, dirty-ass tones that we get out of the Dean add the attitude and shape of the guitar sounds," says Kelly. "I love the Floyd Rose Locking Tremolo on it. I had determined I wanted this specific guitar before I even looked around. I like other Dean guitars but there was one sole purpose in acquiring the Razorback: Tribute."

Kelly does not use the Razorback exclusively.

"I love a mix of all types of guitars. That's what makes Triptaka sound the way we are: no rules, no set way of things, just whatever feels right," he says. "I will say that the Razorback puts that extra'bam' that we love into our sound. When I'm playing on it, there's a moment when I feel like a teenager again and I'm just freakin' jammin' to all my favorite tunes."

Kelly bought the guitar in tribute to Dimebag Darrell, a guitarist Kelly says was a big part of his musical upbringing.

"I felt like I needed to do my part in keeping the memory of him alive. His playing is a reminder for me to rock as hard as I possibly can until I can't go any further -- and then go further than that. Bleed," he says." It's also a constant reminder about discipline and precision. When I look at the guitar, it taunts me to pick it up and rock it out. Some guitars have a "look at me" vibe, the Razorback wants to be played and played hard. Straight up."

He says the guitar is suited to Triptaka's music because it is a hard rock guitar -- nothing more and nothing less.

"When you're pushing that much power you have to have something that can not only handle it, but challenges you to take it to another level," says Kelly. "With the right combo of guitar and amps, you can rip people's fuckin' heads off and leave them wanting more."

Likewise, other players looking for a hard rock guitar will be happy with the Razorback.

"Players that want to feel the power and tightness of shaking someone's rib cage. If you could imagine the adrenline and destruction of shooting a machine gun," he says. "That might give you an idea of the type of experience I've had with the Razorback. There is also tons of room to solo and it's fairly light in weight considering the size, so jumping around and playing is easy to do."

He has used the guitar through different amps, but he prefers to use it through Randall or Mesa Boogie amps. But the guitar, according to Kelly, is sonically versatile.

"The Razorback responds well to both solid state and tube amps." he says "As a player, I think its important to try a bunch of amps all the time. You never know what will happen when you plug in."

Triptaka is putting the finishing touches on a remix CD and working on the follow up to Second War.
