VirSyn Bark 1.5: 64-Bit Version Of Multiband Filter / Compressor
Software effects maker VirSyn released a 64-bit version of its Bark multiband filter / compressor plugin.
As VirSyn notes, Bark 1.5 was designed to match the receptive qualities of the ear. The ear behaves as if it contains a bank of filters, each filter passing frequencies within the critical band; two tones separated by more than a critical bandwidth are received by the ear independently, according to VirSyn. For this reason, Bark contains a filter bank with 27 bandpass filters to match the critical bandwidth.
"In fact, the human ear also has its own built-in compression system based on the critical bands. Consequently, Bark incorporates an independent compression algorithm for each of its 27 bands," writes VirSyn.
This 64-bit version offers compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows Vista of course, plus a redesigned user interface and an integrated AI Knob Interface (VST 3).
Bark's main features:
- 27-Band equalizer / compressor
- Linear phase precision filters for maximal transparency
- +24 / -48 dB gain change rate per band
- Surround operation with channel link / unlink (only available for AU / RTAS / VST3 version)
- Minimized latency (12 ms)
- Real-time pre / post processing spectrum display
- Compression parameters overall and per band
- Host compatibility: VST 3, VST 2.4, AU, RTAS
What's new in version 1.5:
- VST 3 / VST 2.4: 64-bit version for Windows 7 and Windows Vista
- Redesigned user interface
- VST 3: AI Knob Interface integrated
