VOX Valvetronix VT30: An Exercise In Rhythmic Squinting
February 12, 2009
All you single ladies out there dreaming of seven minutes in heaven with Owen O'Malley get an extra special bonus minute with this VOX Valvetronix VT30 demo, which clocks in at a few ticks over eight and a quarter minutes. And guitarists of all genders will benefit from his completely platonic explanation and demonstration of the modeling amp driven by a tube, some fractioned circuitry and what can only be described as "magic."
Don't adjust your computer monitors folks, and be sure to have your motion sickness medication ready. We're aiming straight for your ears with this one.

All Guitar Music Gear is DOOMED (apart from the guitar itself)
All physical guitar music gear is DOOMED. Waves GTR3 will be the first death nail in the use of ultra-expensive amplifiers and effects. It's sounds just as good as the real thing and is much (gross understatement) cheaper with all the variety any sane (or insane) musician requires. Very soon it will stop making sense to carry on producing physical amps and effects and they will just become curiosities and museum pieces.
no henny penny the sky is
no henny penny the sky is not falling....
i would have to agree
the day computers replace real gear 100 percent is the day I give up on music.
camera work on VT30
You've got a great review here. I've got a AD50VT and I love it. I'm not real crazy about the chrome grill but the amp is great. I've just got one thing to say that would certainly help your overall persentation. I have taught video production and thought you might benefit from knowing that if you set your camera to manual focus instead of auto focus it won't float in and out of focus on you. It sure would look a lot better.
Yes, exactly.
I typically do exactly what you're suggesting. I have no idea why I decided to do things differently this time around. Apologies for any induced-kinetosis.
computer guitar
i could bring a laptop to a gig and use it as my tone source, but how will i amplify it SensibleObserver? it will still need to be amplified. i have tried using stage monitors as my guitar monitor but, it does not move air the same way and is very unsatisfying, all the while affecting the way one plays. for computerized guitar to replace the traditional amplifier would be a step backwards in my opinion, just like mp3 quality is below cd 16 bit 44.1khz quality. but the funny thing is, people may accept it like you say SensibleObserver. for me though, i will always want a tube driven high output guitar amplifier and huge speaker cabinet behind me on the platform. if the sound of my guitar does not move air and flap my trousers, i would not be as inspired to play expressively, so i would not play as well. so in essence i think you are close to being correct in your observation SensibleObserver. i suppose there will always be guys like me who prefer the true guitar unsampled sound just because of the air movement and expressiveness of a real tube amp. may GOD Bless You all in JESUS Righteous Name!!!
Peavey Vypyr
Please review the Peavey Vypyr amps too. And not just the 15/30 watters, but the higher power 'gig-ready' amps too please. And thank you.
You're in luck, Don.
Peavey just sent us a bunch of gear to review, including the 60-watt, tube-powered Vypyr, the Sanpera controller pedals, and a Void Guitar. Stay tuned.
Just bought this amp...
with the exception of the speaker out and a background hiss at upper voltage setting.. Wow.. best bang for buck for rehearsal/mini gig amps out there. Very versatile... best with hot humbuckers in bridge position, or a high quality single coil in a aged tele...
