Vox Amplification NT2 Lil’ Night Train: All-Tube Amp Announced
Joining the Night Train amplifier line, the new Vox Amplification NT2 Lil’ Night Train is an all-tube lunchbox-style amp that comes with a matching 1 x 10" Celestion speaker cabinet. Vox calls it the Lil' Night Train because it is indeed little and weighs less than five pounds.
The Lil' Night Train looks a lot like the original Vox Night Train, with its mirror-finish metal exterior cut with the distinctive Vox diamond pattern. Inside the unit are two 12AX7 vacuum tubes in the preamp stage. A single 12AU7 power amp tube delivers 2W of power into the matching V110NT cabinet.
Unlike most all-tube amplifiers, notes the manufacturer, the Lil’ Night Train can be run without a speaker cabinet. The unit's headphone / line output features an emulated speaker response, making it ideal for practicing silently while still getting an all-tube tone, or for direct recording without having to deal with cabinet miking.
Its preamp section features both Gain and Volume controls for adding an overdrive edge at a range of listening levels. Engage the two-band EQ by moving the Bright / Thick switch into the Bright position, and bypass EQ altogether and get a thicker sound with increased gain by moving the same switch to the Thick position.
The Matching V110NT cabinet houses a 10-inch VX speaker from Celestion. The Lil' Night Train comes with a premium (16 AWG) Vox speaker cable for connecting the head and cabinet, as well as a polishing cloth for keeping the Lil’ Night Train head's mirror finish shiny.
Both the Vox NT2 head and matching V110NT cabinet are sold together as the Lil’ Night Train set, which will be available in October of 2010 for $650 (MSRP). For more details, please visit Vox Amplification at voxamps.com.
