V-Picks Big Fattie: More Cushion For The Pushin'

October 16, 2008
V-Pick Big Fattie

I like big tone and I cannot lie, and those other brothers can't deny that when you grab your pick and it's 5.85 mm thick, you get sprung. The V-Pick Big Fattie Guitar Pick is built for those like me, who aren't in denial and don't mind being seen on stages around town with a pick that doesn't look like those flimsy picks you see on the magazine covers.

The V-Pick Big Fattie boasts huge mids with more junk in its bottom end truck than an episode of Sanford and Son. It's high end is also sweet and very musical. This thing's got all the right (EQ) curves.

The design of this pick not only complements the tone nicely, it is also intended to increase your volume quite a bit. It's built so that you can play lighter and get the same tone as you would hammering your strings with a regular pick. Like all V-Picks, you'll be able to relax your hand a bit more while you play for a more comfortable experience, without having to fight your strings to cut through.

The V-Pick Big Fattie comes at a relatively hefty price of $20 a pick, but in the boutique pick world, the pick is not just a piece of plastic that hits your strings. It is a tone shaping device, just as an equalizer or compressor would be.

I bought a pack of 10 in the NAMM show. I really like them and they fit with my style (sweep picking ala Frank Gambale). The round edges help me to play more fluently. Talking about price is a different monster, I think they are ridiculous expensive. I firmly believe if they charge a 100% over the dunlop brand is more than enough.

can't you just roll your own? Buy a 12-pack of Dunlop picks, get some krazy glue and start a'stacking. You can buy 5 of those 1.14mm and get like .3 of an inch pick (whatever that is in the foreign metric system)
