Yamaha Motif XF: Perform, Produce, Customize, And More
It's not the XS, it's the XF -- Yamaha has introduced its new line of Motif XF keyboard workstations in several different models: the 88-key Motif XF8, 76-key Motif XF7, and 61-key Motif XF6.
The Motif XF has enhanced features, up to 2 GB of Flash memory expansion, fully customizable controls, and much more. In addition to its new black color, the Motif XF includes 741 MB of internal Wave ROM; a large internal sound library with detailed digital recreations of two Yamaha acoustic grand piano sounds, realistic acoustic instruments, vintage synths, and hip-hop sounds. The keyboard's front panel knobs and sliders allow for instant sound-shaping and tweaking, while the Category Search function makes it easy to navigate the controls and the included 1,664 instrument voices and 97 drum kits.
The new Motif also features Yamaha’s Intuitive Direct Performance Recording feature for creating backing tracks and the integrated digital mixer for creating final mixes and then recording them onto a USB device. The new four-part Arpeggiator includes 7,881 Arpeggio types, and the 16-track Integrated Sampling Sequencer includes 128 MB of onboard Sample RAM. The Motif XF comes bundled with Cubase AI5.1.1 and a VST editor that integrates with any digital audio workstation (DAW).
According to Yamaha, what makes the Motif XF fully customizable is the 2 GB of additional content that can be loaded onto optional Flash RAM expansion modules, located in two slots on the XF that accommodate, including the proprietary FL512M (512 MB) and FL1024M (1 GB) Yamaha flash option boards. User-generated or downloaded sounds saved onto these modules only need to be loaded once and are always inside the Motif XF until you replace them.
What's more, you can expand your Motif XF with large format voice libraries from Garritan, Sonic Reality, Easy Sounds, and more, available at the Motifator site. At the same Web site, a new suite of software editing tools is also available for the Motif XF and XS, including waveform editors, arp managers, and sample format conversion tools.
Yamaha's Motif XF8 ($4,039 MSRP), Motif XF7 ($3,539 MSRP), and Motif XF6 ($2,999 MSRP), along with the FL1024M ($349 MSRP) and FL512M ($199 MSRP) will begin shipping in September of 2010.
