Zoom R24: Music-Production Tools At Your Fingertips
An audio interface, multitrack recorder, control surface, sampler, numerous ins and outs, and much more come together compactly, portably, in the new Zoom R24 music-production workstation.
The R24 borrows many features from Zoom's R16 and adds to them a sampler and drum machine, eight additional recording tracks, and six channels of phantom-power. Further, the R24 offers 24-track playback and 8-track simultaneous recording using SD memory cards, in addition to combining four production tools -- a digital multi-track recorder, an audio interface, a control surface, and a pad sampler -- into one rather compact gizmo.
Its sampler function consists of 24 built-in voices that can be triggered using 8 pads and 3 bank keys to assign sounds to each track and create loops. Meanwhile, the R24's drum machine and 400 rhythm patterns are provided to help you create original backing beats, or to output a metronome for tempo control.
You can use the new R24 as a portable recorder for various applications, for studio use, for video applications or location shoots, as a post-production workstation, for making beats, as a hands-on control surface with your choice of digital audio workstation (DAW), or just about anything else.

i have the zoom r16 and it works quite well for fast quick recording. the only downside is that the r16 doesn't have midi sync. i'd like to roll the 'tape' with the midi clock from a groovebox. i guess there's always the korg d3200 for that. now, though, with the r24, my r16 joins my zoom h2 as another portable recorder. but, hey...technology works and my 'backpack studio' evolves another notch up the ladder! let's hope the r24 delivers the sonic quality to go along with the feature set!
